Yosemite

Pictures from our trip last weekend to Yosemite. What a beautiful place. A valley floor with huge granite walls, raging waterfalls and flowering meadows. And a ski area within the park only a half hour drive from the valley.

We XC skied on Glacier Point Road (closed to traffic in the winter b/c of snow). We made it to Taft point, about 8 miles one way. From the point, you can view the valley floor and Upper Yosemite Falls.

Bridalveil Falls. A quick hike in from the road.

El Capitan- WOW. You go Lynn Hill (first person to ever free climb The Nose of El Cap...be it man or woman).

Mirror lake....the site of some famous Ansel Adams shots

Our view entering the valley from the tunnel. El Cap off to the left and Half Dome the farthest point you can see.

Visalia Life

Enjoying beautiful sunny days the last 2 weeks. Lots of bike rides up in the hills. Picture lush green rolling hills dotted with cows/horses and snow capped peaks in the distance. Seeing a lot more cyclists out these days.

Had a visit from the Ostyn's from Twin Falls last week. Hung out with the coolest 2 year old boy we know! We took another trip up to Monterey. Spent time on the beach and in town with Jen and Gabe. The Ostyn's have had their 4th consecutive Spring Break with the Cook's. We're hoping for a 5th next year, but with 2 kids, the Cook's may have to go to Idaho!

Decked out in Blue today for the UK game. May be a tough game vs the Ivy-leaguers from Cornell. They gave KU a tough run in early January. For the record, I am beating Chris in our bracket tourney. I will lose the whole thing since 3/4 of my Final 4 have lost...but I must gloat when I can. So rarely do I have this opportunity...

1 month til we are back in Boulder....

Monterey Peninsula

Another beautiful weekend trip, this time to the peninsula to visit Carmel and Monterey. We have been racking up deals by booking hotels at the last minute...getting free breakfasts and drinks and big discounts!
We spent a day at the Monterey Bay Aquarium http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/ seeing so many sea creatures. We were able to touch a stingray (very strong and thick), learn about sea horses (the only male to give birth) and see tons of huge fish, small sharks and cute penguins (my fave).
We took 2 scenic bike rides. One around the peninsula (Carmel Mission, Pebble Beach, 17-mile drive) and one down highway 1. Lounging around the edge of the ocean were seals, sea otters and sea lions. It's like an outdoor zoo!
Tas enjoyed her first trip to the beach. She wasn't too fond of the ocean currents, but liked the free run of the dog beach in Carmel.
