Week One

Where to begin?? We've been in Visalia, CA for about 10 days now. After drying out from the downpours, we have finally been able to get out and enjoy the great outdoors. We are living in an apartment complex with a few parks around it. It has been nice for getting Tas out to run before and after work. She has finally adapted to her new routine and we are right behind her :)

Last weekend we went up to Sequoia Nat'l Park which was amazing. I will try to post some pix to this blog so you can see the ginormousness of these trees. They were extra pretty in the 6 feet of snow that surrounded them. We went up with the intention of XC skiing, but ended up turning around early and strapping on the snowshoes instead. We learned what was meant by the term "Sierra Cement." The snow on the skiis was SO HEAVY!

This weekend we met up with the Southern Sierra Cyclist Bicyle Club (SSC) and went on a beautiful road ride with about 10 others. At our turnaround spot, we stopped for coffee and then we had lunch at a cute little sandwich shop at the end. Orange Works is an old roadside fruit stand (which are everywhere here) turned into sandwich shop. Huge, delicious sandwiches and homemade orange ice cream....mmmm! Chris is VERY excited about the huge bag of oranges we scored for $3.50. I was psyched for the 4 for $1 avocados at one of the roadside stands on the way home. We will definitely be spending time on the weekends frequenting these stands as we drive back and forth from the mountains.

Speaking of mountains, today we checked out the mountain bike riding in Three Rivers. Some nice trails, but a little too techy for me. I was doing a lot of hiking with my bike shoes on....love it! We are hoping to get out to the coast in the next couple of weekends...the trails out there are supposed to be much better.
